The Race Committee has just updated the NOR in relation to the
Sports Boat Class.
With the announcement of the 2010 Asian Sports Boat Championships and the growing range of true "Sports Boats" in the region. The Race Committee has decided to update the handicap system used for Sports Boats Class for this years Sawadee.com Regatta.
The event will now use the Australian Sports Boat Association's SMS system, giving competitors the opportunity to race under this system for the first time in Asia.
Announcing the change, Simon James, Race Director said "By adopting the same system in both events, we can now give our Asian based competitors an opportunity to evaluate their performance against other local crews prior to the Hong Kong Event." "The announcement is already creating a positive buzz on the internet".
Scott Duncanson of Australian based Duncanson Yachts and designer of the Phuket "8" said "I believe SMS clearly deserves a first try in Asia and Samui Regatta is a great start"
In the event of lower than expected entries, the Race Committee may merge the Sports Boats into the IRC 2 Class, but will run a dual scoring system (IRC & SMS) and present an overall Sports Boat Trophy, based on SMS in addition to any IRC Class prizes.
